Life hacks for people who love enjoyment
A few weeks ago, I wrote about the strategies I use to get me out of a “meh” mood. This week, I wanted to talk about a strategy I use to get out of a melancholic mood. PS I separate melancholy from depression which is a medical condition that is best supported through clinical support.
I often go through periods of melancholy. For me, these are periods where I feel kind of sad and they typically manifest as a lot of negative self talk
“Nothing in my life is going well”
“I suck”
“I’m a failure”
“I can’t get anything right”
When I get into these moods, I try to ask myself 3 questions.
What stories am I telling myself about myself?
Usually extremely negative onesHow accurate are these stories?
Usually not very 😩What are more accurate stories that I could tell myself about myself?
K my life’s not perfect. Some things are going great. Something are going okay but all in all I dey okay.
Usually once I’ve gone through three questions, my mood is a little lifted and I’ve realized that my life is in fact … not a disaster.
I hope this helps next time you’re feeling down ❤️.
PS Remember, sharing is caring
I can completely relate to this. For me, personally I found that I feel the most melancholic when I'm about to get my period. It took me a long time to realise this because I never really thought PMS was a thing. Also I'd get the bursts of melancholy at random, not every month like clock work. But over time, I'd find myself inexplicably miserable and it hit me what was going on. Since I realised this, it has helped me manage my feelings.
